Scootering: Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300 – Scootering Magazine Road Test

On a rain-soaked day in March, Andy went to Cannes in France to road test the new Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300. In this video you can see how the unique front end on Piaggio’s MP3 range allows this three-wheeled scooter to lean into corners just as a conventional scooter would. If you’re going to ride a scooter in the rain all day, then a MP3 with three-wheels and the extra stability that comes with it, is a far better option than two! ZAPPY3 Electric Scooter at MIS – FUN!

The Automotive X PRIZE was pretty intense leading up to the on-track stage at Michigan International, but once we were at the track and the car was working fine, there were long periods of where there was nothing to do. Luckily we had several ZAPPY3 electric scooters on hand. The ZAPPY3 is a perfect form of transportation for any race track. The Alias had to charge at the charging tent and it took a good 5-10 minutes to walk all the way out to the charging tent. On a ZAPPY3, it would take about 30 seconds to get there. We would use them to run parts to tech inspection, pick up the lunches, not to mention trips to the bathroom. During the Knockout Stage in June we were neighbors in the garage with the EVXTeam from West Philly Hybrid. These teenagers went crazy for the ZAPPY3 (not only the teens) and we filmed this short video. The ZAPPY3s became the unofficial transportation at the track. Between the ZAPPY3, the XL Truck and the Alias, everyone at the Automotive X PRIZE got a good taste of what ZAP has to offer. Thanks to the West Philly students for inspiring ZAP and thanks to Prash and Sam for helping make this video.

KatieBot III utilizing Wheeleez Wheels

4-wheel Drive, 4-wheel Steering ultimate off-road wheelchair. The KatieBot III was created out of necessity in order for my 12 year old daughter Katie to enjoy the beach. Katie is a T8 complete paraplegic and getting around on the beach was tough for everyone. Enter the KatieBot. The KatieBot is an electric four wheel drive buggy. It uses four MY1016Z 24V, 250 watt electric scooter motors as its power source. The total torque produced is around 115 ft-lbs (thats alot!). Motor control is via my own custom h-bridge motor controller capable of 80 amps @ 30 volts continuous duty. The main power source is two 12 volt 28 AH SLA batteries with a quick disconnect. Steering is also electric utilizing two 24 volt hi-torque windshield wiper motors and rack-and-pinion gear boxes. As a result the buggy has 4-wheel steering allowing for a tight turning radius. Motor control is also via my own custom motor controller. My daughter drives the buggy via a joystick adapted from an electric wheelchair. The electronics of the controller were removed and replaced with my own. The joystick unit controls the acceleration/deceleration of the buggy insuring safe stops and starts. The joystick unit also controls the speed of each wheel independently. This insures that during a tight turn the inner wheels turn at a slower rate than the outer greatly decreasing tire skip and wear. And since my wife won’t let me use my daughter as a test pilot (go figure…) the buggy has a 2.4GHZ wireless link with
